Geography Day: Identifying My Place in the World
As part of the CNAVAS Bilingualism Project and the cross-curricular approach of the Social Studies area, fourth-grade students celebrated Geography Day with a series of activities designed to strengthen their English learning while exploring the world around them.
Como parte del Proyecto de Bilingüismo CNAVAS y del enfoque transversal del área de Ciencias Sociales, los estudiantes de cuarto grado celebraron el Día de la Geografía con una serie de actividades diseñadas para fortalecer el aprendizaje del inglés mientras exploraban el mundo que los rodea.
Students researched a specific country according to the continent assigned by the teacher and created a passport including information about tourist sites, traditional food, famous people, and cultural traditions.
Los estudiantes investigaron sobre un país asignado según su continente, y elaboraron un pasaporte con información sobre sitios turísticos, comidas típicas, personajes destacados y tradiciones culturales.
They then shared their passports with classmates, practicing vocabulary and listening comprehension in English.
Luego, compartieron sus pasaportes con sus compañeros, practicando vocabulario y comprensión oral en inglés.
Additionally, they participated in the game “Passport to the World,” a fun activity that encouraged the use of English while answering questions about the countries studied.
Además, participaron en el juego “Passport to the World”, una dinámica divertida que promovió el uso del inglés para responder preguntas sobre los países estudiados.
Finally, they built a group diorama representing the location of Colombia, Santander, Floridablanca, and the La Cumbre neighborhood, strengthening their sense of belonging and connecting English learning with geography.
Finalmente, construyeron un diorama grupal donde representaron la ubicación de Colombia, Santander, Floridablanca y el barrio La Cumbre, fortaleciendo el sentido de pertenencia y la conexión entre el inglés y la geografía.
This project helped students develop research, writing, reading, and speaking skills in English, promoting meaningful learning and cultural competence.
Este proyecto permitió desarrollar habilidades de investigación, escritura, lectura y expresión oral en inglés, promoviendo el aprendizaje significativo y la competencia cultural de los estudiantes.
